Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, envisions a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film starring himself and Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview, Elba expressed his excitement about the prospect, stating that a live-action adaptation featuring their characters would be "Whoa."
This isn't a completely unfounded hope. Variety reported in October 2023 that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and The Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation is a strong possibility.
Elba, who portrayed Solomon Reed in Phantom Liberty, and Reeves, the iconic Johnny Silverhand, would bring their established characters to the big screen. The potential for a compelling on-screen dynamic between the two actors is significant.
Beyond the live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar's backstory. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025. And, excitingly, a new Cyberpunk 2077 animated series is in development.
