MultiVersus Servers Shutting Down in May

Authore: AdamUpdate:Mar 13,2025

Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will be its last, ending the Warner Bros. platform fighter on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the discontinuation of support in a blog post on their website. Launched May 28, 2024, MultiVersus Season 5 begins February 4th and runs until its May 2025 conclusion. Online play will end then, but offline access to all earned and purchased content will remain available via local and training modes.

The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support: “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Real-money transactions ceased January 31st, 2025, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used for in-game content until May 30th. MultiVersus will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.

This closure follows reports of MultiVersus underperforming significantly for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a $100 million writedown, contributing to a $300 million total writedown for their games sector (including Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League). This news follows the recent departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad. As CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels stated during a November financial call: "We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline.”

Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will include new content, featuring Lola Bunny and Aquaman as playable characters. Lola Bunny will be unlockable via a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, both launching next week.
