Project Zomboid: How to Board Up Windows

Authore: LeoUpdate:Jan 04,2025

In the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid, securing your shelter is paramount. While finding a safe haven is relatively straightforward, protecting it from the relentless undead hordes requires strategic planning. This guide focuses on a fundamental defensive measure: barricading windows.

How to Secure Your Windows in Project Zomboid

To effectively barricade a window, you'll need specific materials: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these, simply right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.

Locating these supplies is key. Hammers and nails are commonly found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are frequently located at construction sites, or can be salvaged by breaking down wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.) in a pinch. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items directly.

Barricaded windows significantly impede zombie access. The more planks used, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click the barricade and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to accomplish this.

Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as barricades; both zombies and players will pass right through them. While these items are unsuitable for defense, knowing how to move furniture remains a useful skill for interior arrangement.

More robust barricades can be constructed using metal bars or sheets, though this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
