A Knight of Decay: Xbox Brings Avowed’s Plague to London

A decaying knight statue, its armor consumed by real-life mushrooms, has mysteriously appeared in London. This haunting installation, crafted by Xbox, serves as a chilling advertisement for their upcoming game, Avowed. The statue, a powerful visual representation of the game's "Dreamscourge" infection, immerses onlookers in the game's grim world. Nearby posters promoting Avowed for Xbox Series X|S further enhance the immersive experience, transforming a London street into a portal to the game's dark fantasy setting.

Xbox has released a behind-the-scenes video on YouTube, detailing the creation of this unique and unsettling promotional piece.

Meanwhile, Avowed has already garnered significant praise. A remarkable 81% of Deluxe Edition players on Steam recommended the game before its official launch, generating considerable excitement for today's Standard Edition release.

Gaming journalist Jason Schreier shared his enthusiasm, highlighting the game's strengths: "Avowed has me hooked. Obsidian’s storytelling and combat were expectedly strong, but it’s the world’s design that stands out. Every pathway leads somewhere, every rooftop is accessible, and there’s always a hidden detail waiting to be found. Even after 40 hours, I keep coming back."

However, Schreier also acknowledges a disparity between critical reception and player enthusiasm, drawing parallels to Fallout: New Vegas: "Some of the reviews surprise me. It’s the same situation as Fallout: New Vegas—critics were split, but players turned it into a legend. Avowed could follow a similar trajectory."

Fallout: New Vegas, despite an initial Metacritic score of 83, has since achieved legendary status. Could Avowed be destined for a similar journey to RPG greatness?
