Capcom unveiled fresh gameplay footage of its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal also confirmed the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.
A new trailer, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, provided a captivating glimpse into the game's sword-based combat and imposing enemies. While still over a year away, the game's visuals and action sequences are already impressive.
*Onimusha: Way of the Sword* features Miyamoto Musashi, a historical figure renowned for his unparalleled swordsmanship. The trailer highlights not only his exceptional fighting prowess but also his mischievous and humorous personality.Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game starring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the iconic Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, who famously portrayed Musashi in several samurai films.
The game is set in a Kyoto overrun by Malic, an evil force summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new Onimusha game in two decades. To whet fans' appetites, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
