In the thrilling world of *Phasmophobia*, Cursed Possessions offer both exciting rewards and perilous risks. Tarot Cards are a prime example, presenting a high-stakes gamble during your investigations. If you're unsure how to wield their power, this guide will illuminate the path.
How to Use Tarot Cards in Phasmophobia

Tarot Cards are among the riskiest Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia, but they also offer some of the most potent benefits—if fortune smiles upon you. When you encounter them, it's wise to use them in a safe area, like near a hiding spot or the entrance. This precaution allows for a quicker escape if you draw an unfavorable card, such as Death.
Each card unleashes a unique effect upon use. However, there's always the chance of drawing The Fool (similar to a Joker), resulting in no effect. You can draw up to ten cards, without any sanity penalty. Duplicate cards are possible, and each will have the same effect.
Ten distinct cards await within the deck:
Tarot Card | Effect | Draw Chance |
---|---|---|
The Tower | Doubles ghost activity for 20 seconds | 20% |
The Wheel of Fortune | Gains 25% sanity (green flame); loses 25% sanity (red flame) | 20% |
The Hermit | Confines the ghost to its favorite room for 1 minute (cannot interrupt hunts or events) | 10% |
The Sun | Fully restores sanity to 100% | 5% |
The Moon | Completely drains sanity to 0% | 5% |
The Fool | Mimics another card before becoming The Fool; burns with no effect | 17% |
The Devil | Triggers a ghost event for the nearest player | 10% |
Death | Triggers a Cursed Hunt (20 seconds longer); further card draws are blocked during the hunt. | 10% |
The High Priestess | Instantly revives a fallen teammate | 2% |
The Hanged Man | Instantly kills the user | 1% |
What are Cursed Objects (Possessions) in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Possessions, often called "Cursed Objects," are unique items randomly appearing on contract maps (depending on difficulty or Challenge Mode). Unlike standard equipment, which aids investigation with minimal risk, Cursed Objects offer powerful manipulation of the ghost, but at significantly higher risk to your character's well-being.
The risk associated with each object varies, leaving the decision of whether to use them entirely up to you and your team. There's no penalty for avoiding them, nor any bonus for using them.
Only one Cursed Possession spawns per contract (unless modified in Custom settings), always in a predetermined location. For example, the Voodoo Doll consistently appears in the Garage at 6 Tanglewood Drive.
Seven Cursed Objects exist in the game: Haunted Mirror, Voodoo Doll, Music Box, Tarot Cards, Ouija Board, Monkey Paw, and Summoning Circle.
