Civilization 7 Patch 1.0.1 Addresses Some of the Negative Feedback From Advanced Access

Authore: EllieUpdate:Mar 18,2025

Firaxis Games, the developer behind Civilization VII, has released patch 1.0.1, hot on the heels of the game's full launch. This follows an advanced access period that garnered mixed Steam reviews. The patch addresses numerous community concerns, primarily focused on the user interface, limited map variety, and a perceived lack of expected features.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, acknowledged the negative press and player feedback surrounding Civilization VII's release. However, he expressed confidence that the game's dedicated player base would warm to it over time, describing the early performance as "very encouraging."

Now available to all players, not just those with early access, patch 1.0.1 (for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck) is the first in a series of planned updates designed to incorporate player feedback. The full patch notes are detailed below. It’s important to note that cross-play multiplayer has been temporarily disabled to streamline PC updates, resulting in a potentially different patch release schedule compared to consoles. This only affects cross-play between PC and console players; console-to-console and PC-to-PC multiplayer remain unaffected.

Civilization 7 1.0.1 Patch Notes (February 10, 2025)

Gameplay (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck)

  • Fixed an issue causing shortened Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
  • City-States now become Friendly Independent Powers during Age Transitions instead of vanishing. They also start with more units in the Exploration and Modern Ages.
  • Resolved inconsistencies in Naval Combat:
    • Naval Units now use correct Combat Strength values when attacking other Naval Units.
    • Naval Units correctly receive reciprocal damage after attacking.
    • Naval Units more consistently move to the attacked tile after victory.
  • Completing a Legacy Path's final milestone no longer grants Modern Age progress, allowing more time for victory completion.
  • Towns automatically switch focus back to growth if their chosen focus is no longer eligible (e.g., population decrease).
  • The Future Civic is now repeatable in all Ages, with increased costs for repeated use. The same applies to Future Tech.
  • Fixed an issue where excessive growth bonuses resulted in negative food requirements.
  • Improved Rail Network reliability for Settlements connecting over water via Ports, provided the Capital has a Port or rail connection to a settlement with a Port.
  • Enhanced Loyalty Crisis management in the Antiquity Age, including the ability to purchase Villas during the crisis.

A note about cross-play multiplayer: To expedite PC updates, patches may be deployed at a different cadence than on consoles—including this Patch 1.0.1. Therefore, cross-play between PC and console players is temporarily disabled. Console-to-console and PC-to-PC multiplayer remain unaffected.

  • AI less frequently offers high-value Cities during Peace Deals.
  • In the Modern Age, AI declares war less often at the age's start.

  • Other Leaders have a reduced desire for war if neither party possesses an Ideology.
  • Other Leaders have an increased desire for war against players with opposing Ideologies.
  • Other Leaders have a decreased desire for peace with players of opposing Ideologies.
