Assassin's Creed Shadows: A Revamped Parkour System and Dual Protagonists

Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft's highly anticipated feudal Japan adventure, is set to launch February 14th, bringing significant changes to the franchise's iconic parkour. This latest installment introduces a dual protagonist system, featuring Naoe, a stealthy shinobi, and Yasuke, a powerful samurai, each offering distinct gameplay styles.

The game's parkour has undergone a major overhaul. Instead of free-climbing any surface, players will navigate pre-designed "parkour highways." While this might initially seem restrictive, Ubisoft assures players that most climbable areas remain accessible, albeit requiring a more strategic approach. This focused design allows for more controlled level design, particularly differentiating Naoe's agility from Yasuke's limitations. The grappling hook will also play a key role in navigating these pathways.

Seamless ledge dismounts are another key innovation. Players can now smoothly dismount from ledges with stylish flips, enhancing the fluidity of the parkour experience. A new prone position adds to the movement options, allowing for sprinting dives and slides.

Ubisoft aims to bridge the gap between classic stealth gameplay and the RPG combat style of titles like Odyssey and Valhalla. With its unique setting, dual protagonists, and refined parkour system, Assassin's Creed Shadows promises a fresh take on the franchise, but faces stiff competition from other high-profile releases in February. The game will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
